Appearance Despite her age, Is’ka looks like a teenager who has yet to hit her growth spurt. Short and skinny, her skin has an unusual sheen to it, though all it really does is give her an appearance of being pale and oily. Her hair is black in color and fashioned into rather large dreadlocks, falling to her waist. Her eyes are a deep blue that comes off as almost a royal blue or violet color. She also possesses partially webbed hands and feet, as well as small fins on her forearms and shins— though the latter are somewhat difficult to tell she has unless she’s in water. Otherwise they lay flat against her skin. She often wears clothing that covers her fins and gloves that cover the webbing on her hands, not out of any sense of shame but more of a way to keep her from answering possibly embarrassing questions.
Personality A rather happy Tristani, Is’ka generally tries to see the good in most things. She can come off as generally naive, which doesn’t help her appearance of being an awkward and somewhat innocent teenager. She has a strong aversion to the killing of sentient beings, questioning if anyone really has the right to take the life of another. As such, unless hunting for food, she strives to maintain non-lethal blows when fighting. Her height is a bit of a sore point and it will get a rise out of her. At these times (and on some other occasions), she will develop a rather unhealthy mix of “open mouth, insert foot” and “saying bad things at even worse times.” Which, understandably, can lead to bad times… mostly for her.
Background Is’ka was born and raised on the southern coast of the Karelin, in Tristai, though she spent a great deal of her childhood and adolescence out on fishing vessels. Part of a bloodline that never fully lost the abilities of their aquatic ancestors, Is’ka took to the water much easier than she did land. It was these same ancestors, however, that her family vowed to fight to keep from taking over the waters and lands of Tristai.
When Is’ka was around 18, after several years of traveling around and exploring new fishing grounds, she decided she enjoyed cooking. While traveling in Lekota, exploring the fish markets in Azket (which were horrid compared to Tristai’s what with the whole not near the ocean thing), she decided that she needed to introduce good cooking to the country. The land in Azket was too expensive, however, and her negotiating skills were poor for one of the Tristai lands. Plus that whole “open mouth, insert foot” thing she was prone too. Moving to Woksol, she took up a job at a local inn as a jack-of-all trades doing whatever needed to be done. Her rebellious nature has led to several scrapes with the local laws, but her good-naturedness and well meaning attitude make her generally well liked in town.
